REBCO WG meeting

US/Pacific
Description
  • What performances and parameters should the conductor have? How can we make magnets using these conductors?
  • What is the maximum dipole field a REBCO magnet can generate?
  • What is the magnet performance? How does it quench? What is the field quality?
  • Does the magnet performance degrade, e.g., during operation, after thermal cycles? If so, how can we prevent it?
  • How can we characterize the performance for long conductors?

      Update on magnet status
      • subscale common coil: instrumentation needs
      • COMB
      • c3
Speakers: Anis Ben Yahia (Brookhaven National Laboratory), Maxim Martchevskii, Ramesh Gupta (BNL), Reed Teyber (LBNL), Vadim Kashikhin (Fermilab), Vito Lombardo (Fermilab), Xiaorong Wang (LBNL)
      • Common coil:
        • BNL prepares the test of subscale CORC® common coil. Test may occur in September due to the AUP magnet test.
        • Will have a test preparation meeting on Friday 8/5/2022.
      • COMB
        • Based on the feedback from test winding results, FNAL and ACT are discussing possible optimization of the mandrel design.
        • FNAL to decide the plan with the existing wires and potential additional wires.
      • C3
        • 3-turn Layer 1 wound. Short between conductor and mandrel occurred due to sharp edges of the mandrel. Have options to mitigate the short for next windings.
        • Next to measure the Ic of Layer 1.
        • Proposed to vendor to make and test prototype C3 wires to test the assumptions for the received tapes asap.
